Soy Latino! Who Do You Think YOU Are?

In light of all that is going on in Arizona with the immigration law, I thought it was time I put down my carne-asada taco, take the last swig of my orange bang and blog about my heritage. While I could get into the Arizona law - I won't. Instead, I will let everybody know a little about me and my heritage.

Soy Latino (I am Latin) and I was born in the United States. My mother and father were born in the United States as well. My grandmother is from El Paso, Texas and my grandfather was from Juarez, Mexico. To be honest, I don't know where my father is from because he hasn't been around since I was 2 years old and my mother doesn't know either. It's all good, he's a rat bastard and I don't care. Just being honest. I do not know Spanish fluently, but I do understand it pretty good and can speak above average Spanish. I can even read it pretty good. Ju-know what I mean?

A Mexican-American who was born in East Los Angeles, CA, yet I was raised around all types of races and nationalities. I've never succumbed to racial profiling and I know that stereo-types exist and is similar to racial profiling, but it's not the same; it's not to me at least. I also know that there is beauty within every person regardless of their ethnicity. I think we all have areas where we can improve as individuals and improve within our own culture; however, I think it's more important that we improve as a human race more than anything. The sooner we do this, the sooner those stereo-types and racial profiling will go away. The only thing thing is, this would mean there'd be less asians driving on the streets. I'm totally kidding. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Truth be told, every ethnicity has its own stereo-type; nobody can escape the stereo-type. Heck, look at the Major League Baseball Angels - they want the stereo-type so bad they changed their name (back) to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Anaheim Angels = Mas Puto! (Sorry, if you're not Latino, look the definition up, say it to a Latino or watch George Lopez)

The point of this blog is to give you all a little back ground of where I'm from and to also let you know I am proud to be Mexican. Equally, I am proud to be a Mexican-American and whatever makes you-you, be proud of it too. I would love to know who you are, where you're from and if you're proud of your ethnicity - let me know about it by commenting below.

Go Doyers! (Dodgers)

I would consider my self to be American with a Mexican Heritage. I think it is time that we start treating heritage and birth place/who you have sworn your allegiance to as a country in two different categories! It should not matter if your mom, or your great great grandfather was the first immigrant in this country. Once you are born here you are an American Period! With that said everyone who is here in the US with the exception of Native Americans have a family blood line that originated elsewhere. I think it's great to be proud of your heritage and I think no one should ever be ashamed of it. But, I truly feel that if you are a citizen of this country either by birth or naturalization process, you should be viewed as AMERICAN PERIOD and nothing else. There is no need to help in creating division lines just because of heritage. that's just my two cents. If you do want to read more on the AZ laws there are great articles at www.chubjohnson.blogspot.com
