Valentine's Day: What Does It Mean To You?

I must say, I have always been a romantic guy, but over the years Valentine's Day has lost a bit of its luster. Now, I know it can be said I am the one who has lost the luster, but hear me out before you get to judging me.

While the saying, "I don't need to show my love one day out of the year, because I show it all year long" holds true and is fact for many if not most people I've come across in my life. And yes, it is quite a convenient outlook as well; albeit, convenient, but nonetheless it is true. It also will not score you any brownie points with your significant other - whomever he/she may be. After all, isn't that what it is all about? No...No...not the scoring of the points per se; rather, making our significant other happy...right?

Whatever the answer is - FOR YOU - there definitely is no denying that AMOR is in the air and when somebody receives a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and edible arrangement of fruit and chocolate dipped strawberries, or even a bear with a balloon - oh, how it warms the soul for that individual.

Am I wrong?

And, I am not talking about things I've read or seen in movies either. Don't get it twisted, your boy is a regular ol' Latin Cupid.  Shiaoooo!

Now, I've been the recipient as well as the one to give. I know what I'm talking about.  It's a great feeling for that person and - FOR ME - that is why I do it. Knowing I just made somebody who is special to me, feel special on a day when their co-workers and friends are also getting flowers and gifts. The fact that her co-workers will see is a perk, but that is definitely not the reason I do it.

In the end, yes Valentine's Day at time, feels like it has lost the luster it once had, but that's really just because I've matured and so has my significant other. We're fickle like that. Sue us. You see, we understand that we do many things throughout the year to show our love; however, on this day, we know we don't need to go "all out" and "waste" money just for the sake of following some pagan holiday. All that said though, (please insert hypocrite comment) we do still participate at a much more practical level and frankly, we enjoy staying out of the fray that gathers at every restaurant on February 14.

In conclusion my friends, I am definitely not a cheap guy, heck, I'm the exact opposite really. Though, despite the fact that I am generous to my loved one throughout the year, I will admit, having a girl that does not expect things on Valentine's Day is awesome and lesbihonest (inside joke), the fact that she is the way she is makes me want to do more for her on this day.

So what I'm curious most about is...

WHY DO YOU DO IT?

If you don't, I'd love to hear the rationale behind why you don't.
