I will keep this short and sweet. Rajon Rondo, the Point Guard for the Boston Celtics has been playing "out of his mind" as many analysts and announcers have so eloquently stated the past few weeks. For those who do not know who he is, well...this post is not for you. However, for those who do know who he is...think about Rajon Rondo's play since he's been in the league. Do not be blinded by the facade that is this season and more importantly, this season's playoff performance thus far by Mr. Rondo. It shouldn't take you very long to come to the realization that this guy has been an average Point Guard at best.
So the short and sweet verdict in my opinion is Rajon Rondo is simply doing what a Point Guard should do; moreover, he is doing what a Point Guard on a team surrounded by Stars like Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett would be asked to do. To this I say - It's about damn time!
You know, when Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns drops a double-double it's just "Steve being Steve". But, when Rajon Rondo does it - he's the next best thing since butter. I can't stand the media and how they feel the need to sensationalize everything in the best interest of drawing attention to themselves using reverse psychology. Yup, I said it - it's a ploy my friends. By diverting the attention to Rajon Rondo, they are promoting themselves; albeit their network or themselves as individual sports personalities or commentators.
"This is the best performance by a Celtic - ever!" - Anonymous TNT Color Commentator
"Rajon Rondo is the best all around point guard in the game! Nobody is close to him" - Magic Johnson
Are you kidding me? When they said that, somewhere in French Lick, Indiana, a blonde headed sharp shooter who used to dawn the #33 is rolling his eyes in anger, while combing that beautifully feathered mane which sits atop his head.
Quick run down for you folks keeping score out there...below are the guards who have guarded Rajon Rondo thus far in the playoffs.
Mario Chalmers
Mo Williams/Anthony Parker
Jameer Nelson/Jason "White Chocolate" Williams
And...people are surprised Rajon Rondo is playing so well? Good gosh people, I can't even fathom how well Steve Nash, Derron Williams, Derrick Rose, Tony Parker etc. would do against such lackluster point guards.
It's pretty easy to play well when there's no defense!
In closing, Rajon Rondo appears to be having a "break out" season and good playoff performances. I will give him that. But please, I beg you... do not fall prey to the hype without doing some research. The man couldn't shoot to save his life, yet this is the guy Magic Johnson dubs as the best overall point guard in the league? ::shaking my head:: It's no wonder you didn't cut it as a coach Magic. I love you for being a Laker, but your opinions are about as valid as me having good credit.
Okay, so this post wasn't short - but it sure was sweet!
And that my friends are some reasons why I feel Rajon Rondo is not as good as advertised.

Let me start off by saying I am a Celtic fan; that being said, remember this is his third year in the league. He has improved in every area in those 3 years, this year he led the league in steals, was 8th in double doubles, and 3rd in assists by total. This year he was an all-star and it was well deserved. The Celtics have 3 sure fire hall or famers yet the offense is run all through him regardless of the situation. That says enough about the guy, in my opinion he is a top 3 or 4 point guard right now. He is posed to take over the top spot with his play in the play offs. WHEN WE BEAT THE LAKERS again this year for the title he will probably when MVP and become one of a few point guards that do. So all the praise is well deserved, remember it's the play offs that count more than anything. He is playing at the highest level right now which tells me that he is a PT player.
